Samsung T5/T7 and Mac Sonoma

I have both a Sumsung SSD T5 and T7, both of which work fine on my MacBook Pro and have worked fine on my old iMac. I have now moved on to a Mac Studio with the OS Sonoma (14.1) installed. Neither the T5 or the T7 will work with the new system.

On plugging in the SSD, the 'T5_Setup' icon appears on my desktop but, on opening the Samsung SSD software, I get the 'Disconnected' message (see attached screen grab). Clicking 'refresh' makes no difference. Clicking 'Update' produces a message that the current software is up to date. Clicking the 'T5_Setup' icon leads to a software installation sequence that concludes with the message that the 'This package is incompatible with this version of Mac OS' (see attached screen grab.

Why is this so difficult and how do I get my Samsung SSDs to work with the new Mac?

Same issue here. T7 works on old Intel based Mac but wont mount or anything on new M2 2022 MBP. My old Lacie works fine on the M2. I spent hours troubleshooting to no avail. Apple has to put out a firmware update or something.

Thanks chadfromsunrise.

I am puzzled as to why a device that aims to make connections possible, but doesn't impact software compatibility, would solve the problem I have which is a software compatibility problem.

I have now dealt with the problem I have had with the T5/T7 by:

  • disabling the Samsung security software on the SSD (an option available when you first enter your password when attached a compatible Mac)
  • reformatting the Samsung T5 or T7 with 'APFS Encrypted', which gives you the option of having a password to access the reformatted disc.

Thank you Chadfromsunrise

I have dealt with this by disabling the Samsung security software. At least this enable me to use the 2TB disc even if I don't have t password protected.

I did this by using it on my old laptop that still works with the Samsung security software. Having put in my password, there is an option (?'settings' or something like that) which gives you the ability to disable the security software. The disc then works as normal.

I am now looking in to using a Mac friendly approach to password protecting folders on the disc.

Hi! After trying various solutions, I found a simple fix for the issue. I had to uninstall the Samsung app, even though it claimed to have the latest version (1.6.9), however the latest version was 1.6.10 and I downloaded it from this link https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/tools/. After reinstalling, the app prompted for permissions, which I accepted. The problem was resolved after restarting the computer with an M2 processor and Sonoma 14.0. Hopefully, this solution works for you too.

Hi all! I've tried all of this stuff but I'm stuck in a bit of no mans land here.

The drive shows up fine on:

• Disk Utility

• Desktop

• Samsung Magician Software

I can unlock/lock etc. I can see that there is data on there from where I backed up all of my photography but when I open the drive from the desktop it shows no files at all.

So, to me, it looks as if the drive has no issues. I feel like it's not quite unlocking it properly or something. Anyone had a similar issue?

Thank you
