It is important to distinguish between the 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display (model A1407) and the 27" Apple LED Cinema Display (model A1316).


You need the Apple TB3-to-2 adapter to connect the Thunderbolt Display.


You would not use that adapter to connect the LED Cinema Display, as the adapter doesn't know how to present a plain DisplayPort signal on the TB2 side. To connect the LED Cinema Display, you would use a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter.
