ms Office 2019 not compatible with Sonoma ver14

for the past week, I can't edit or create any of my office documents. After a few rounds of troubleshooting with Microsoft, they concluded that probably Sonoma ver14 is not compatible with my MS Office 2019. they advised me to downgrade to the OS (Monterey) when I first installed the Office 2019 app.

Has anyone encountered the same issue? Just wondering if there are any risks if I downgrade the MacOS...

I had the same issue for few days. Today I finally solve it. I have MS 2019 Excel, Word, OneNote and Powerpoint on v 16.78 installed and Sonoma 14.1.1 and I was finally able to activate it.

For me there was no need to go back in Time Machine.

Steps:

  1. Delete all of the Microsoft apps and empty the trash bin.
  2. Download and install Microsoft_Office_License_Removal_2.7. This will remove all MS licences from your computer.
  3. Download and install Microsoft_365_and_Office_16.78.23102801_BusinessPro_Installer
  4. Start one of app Word/Excel/Powerpoint
  5. When Microsoft Autoupdate starts unclick Automatically keep Microsoft apps up to date.
  6. Click Advanced unclick Automatic updates.
  7. Click Sign in with the email account you had purchase the office - this will start Activation and will Activate your Office.
  8. Do not enable updates

Thats all. Hope it will help.

So I had the same issue. The only way I was able to fix it was:

  1. Delete all of the Microsoft apps I had and empty the trash bin.
  2. Going back on Time Machine to restore an older version that hadn't been updated.
  3. After I restored all the Microsoft apps
  4. Click on the Name of the app in the top left side
  5. Sign out
  6. The click Activate Office on that same menu
  7. Sign in with the email account you had purchase the office
  8. Do not enable updates

Hope this helps, as I wouldn't run an older version of an IOS if you want the latest security updates

Hi, I've been having similar issue with my 2019 Office and nothing seems to work!

- does not allow me to edit or modify anything -

My Office pack came with the purchase of the MacBook Pro and now even if I download the right version for Sonoma 14.3.1 Version, it won't show or appear anywhere that I ever had a License - even although I've been using Microsoft Word/Excel/etc for the past 5 years.

Any ideas or Suggestions what the there for me left to do? - in a way I refuse to buy a package/subscription just because the Microsoft team Updated and changed things around.

I really appreciate this community and all the answers

Many thanks!!

I am currently using OS Ventura 13.6.2 and my MS Office for Mac 2019 (perpetual license) works fine.
I was considering upgrading to OS Sonoma 14.1.1, but I'm not sure Office 2019 will continue to work.

You'd have to decide which is better, upgrading to new macOS and getting all the security or keeping with the older 3rd party apps. If I were you, I'd opt for the newer macOS. 👍
