Apple TV and updating apps asking for password for wrong apple ID

A couple of months or so ago we used my daughter’s Apple ID to sign into her Apple TV on my iPhone because (surprise surprise) her battery was quite low.

Now, I can update all of my apps EXCEPT Petco and PetSmart.

Those keep asking for the password for HER Apple ID and neither give an option to switch to my Apple ID.

All of my other apps just do the update when I click update.

While I had used these two apps in the past, they had not been used in quite some time. Recently I got a dog and re-downloaded the apps from the App Store.

First app was Petco. That one was a couple of weeks after we had logged into Apple TV. (I also logged out of Apple TV thinking that would correct the issue, it did not).

About a week ago, I re-downloaded PetSmart and am now having the same issue.

ONLY these two apps.

And no, the apps were not initially downloaded -or set up- with her Apple ID.

Has anyone experienced this and been able to fix it, or know how to?

Thanks!!

  1. You should never log in with someone else's Apple ID on your devices as it can cause a ton of issues that cannot be easily resolved.
  2. There is no way to just log in to Apple TV on an iPhone. You had to log in to Media & Purchases which includes not only the Apple TV, but also the iTunes Store, iBooks Store and yes the App Store. At this point any Apps downloaded would be tied to her Apple ID.
  3. Any Apps downloaded with a specific Apple ID will forever be tied to said Apple ID, and can never be transferred to a different Apple ID.
  4. Go to Settings ➜ Apple ID ➜ Media & Purchases, and make sure your own Apple ID is logged in there.

Then delete the Apps, and re-download them with your own Apple ID, from the App Store, not the purchase History.
