Why doesn't the event change match the reminder?

I would like an option for all iCal widgets to stay on the current event until the event ends instead of switching to next event the minute the current event begins. Can someone make this happen? I was so excited to see calendar widgets available on desktop Macs, but super disappointed to see they do the same thing as all the other calendar widgets, so I still have to keep the calendar app open. I don't need to know the next event the MINUTE the current event starts. I need to know the CURRENT event until the END of the current event. Or an option to have the next event show up at the time you set for the reminder. So if I set the reminder "at time of the event" that's when that event should be shown on all widgets. If I set the reminder to "15 minutes before event" the event should change then. Right now I have the reminder set to "at time of the event" but when my watch dings the reminder, do you know what I see? I see the next event and not the one I was just reminded of ... Completely unproductive.
