External speakers for output work fine - they plug into the jack in the back of the mini. BUT there are NO options showing for input. Used to be there but no more. I have removed the speaker plug, restarted and still no options for input.

The audio output jack on this model might be for audio output only. In which case you might want to look into USB sound cards.
The Mac mini has no built-in input device. It has no microphone. Never has.
You can use most USB input devices, or a headset/headphone with a mic in the headphone jack, iirc.

I use the LED cinema display for input and output> I use the speakers for output but when that is not in use I use the display for both. OUTput is working, as before, no devices for input are showing up.
NO input devices showing on mac mini M1. Output is fine. NO input.
