Auto scanning when using recipe

I work with students with disabilities. We are using switch control with an external switch. We use a recipe that is set to "tap middle of screen" so that when they hit the switch it presses the middle of a you tube video and turns it on and off. That works just fine. But if the iPad goes to sleep, when you wake it up it starts to autoscan. The only way to stop it is to go into accessibility and turn switch control off and then on again. Is there any setting that will make it so you keep switch control on but just use the recipe.
