iMessages - arrows under letters

I received iMessages from an older acquaintance and all of her letters have an upward-facing arrow underneath them. Why would that be?

In text font is blue A couple of iMessages sent from my boyfriend (it has only happened with him), have random words that appear blue? The font of random words is blue, not the text bubble, which is grey as it’s a message I have received.
