iPad insists on iMessage
On my iPad, it doesn’t seem to want to do anything but iMessage.
I start a text to someone who I know doesn’t have iMessage. It says “new message”, above the heading. Then suddenly that changes to say, “new iMessage”, and the name of the person goes red. When I tap on the name, it says, “this # is not set up with iMessage”. And the send arrow is dimmed out. There’s just no way to send the message!
Why won’t it just use the regular cellular service, since the person doesn’t have iMessage? I have reception. I have data. Cellular is not turned off or anything. It ought to just change over to standard, cellular, sms messaging right?
I tried restarting. That didn’t help.
Please — is this something stupid that should be totally obvious?
