Iforgot sending me round in circles as I try to remember my old icloud password - any tips

This is going to be a bit long and boring - sorry!

So, I've owned apple stuff for 30+ years.

Somewhere in that time, I accidentally got 2 apple ids and due to having various devices have managed to be mostly logged into icloud with one id and mostly purchasing stuff from apple store with the other ID.

However...I've just got a new phone and forgot the old apple id password. And as I'm only logged into istore on various devices with this - I logged a 'lost password unlock' to iforgot which promised to release me this afternoon (I've been waiting 4 DAYS) - but this afternoon - nothing happened. So I tried again - and have been told it's now still pending with apple.

I've got a brand new, lovely Iphone 15 that I'm now partially using, daren't move the old phone across until I know everything works.

Apple Support seem devoid of humans to actually help/call me and keep telling me to wait.

I'm a loyal apple-loving user since 1990, but this is REALLY trying my patience.

Oh, I got SOOO close to resolving - using code to my phone, then code to my email, then my credit card- which for some reason had an incorrect date on expiry - but when I went to try to change the expiry date - it was blanked-out...so the circling continues.

I've gone in to change the credit card settings via appstore and this seems to have worked (not sure why the date was wrong) - but I'm no longer getting the option to verify via credit card.

I suspect there's nothing anyone can do, but any help appreciated.

Thanks!

You are describing going thru the account recovery process. Some things to keep in mind when starting and waiting for account recovery.

When starting the account recovery steps the credit card is an extra option that can help shorten the wait time but is not required if you don't have the card or the card details you enter are not correct. Look for/scroll down for options in small blueprint to skip/bypass this step.

Account recovery is a two-phase process once started. Phase 1 is the evaluation period, usually 24-72 hours but can be longer or shorter. This phase says Apple is evaluating your info and you’ll get an update after the posted time is over (people mistakenly think it means they’ll be able to reset the password immediately after this first phase.)

Once phase 1 is done it enters phase 2 where https://iforgot.apple.com/ will give you the final number of days (can be weeks) you’ll wait. On that final day you’ll get a text/email, follow that text/email immediately.

During the wait period make sure you are also following the section After you start account recovery
