Using an iPod with an external hard drive

Hello there I hope that you can help me please? Can I say from the outset that I am NOT technically minded so would appreciate if advice etc was kept simple and avoided technical terms.

  1. I have an iPod Classic with about 4,000 songs.
  2. iTunes is on my laptop but due to memory size etc it is unable to cope with the transfer of 4,000 songs . So iTunes is empty and I cannot add more songs to the iPod.
  3. I have copied my library from my iPod via iPod Control to an external hard drive.
  4. I need to sync my iPod with the new library on the external hard drive. How do I do that please?
  5. The laptop is of no use, as it cannot accomodate the transfer of files.
  6. Do I still need to involve an empty iTunes Library in this process.

Apologies if this is very obvious but I am confused. To sum up how do I sync a library on an external hard drive with an iPod without involving iTunes on a laptop.

Many Thanks for any help or advice.

See Make a split library portable - Apple Community. The long and the short of it is that you can create an iTunes library that exists entirely on the external drive. Once that contains all of your music (e.g. the tracks that you recovered via iPod Control) and if needs be any playlists (see the scripts mentioned in Recover media from an iPod - Apple Community) then you can sync the library on the external drive to the iPod. As ever I would recommend backing up the library to a second external drive first.
