Make Music.app see and use MY files first and foremost

My library is a complete mess after using Apple Music for a few years.

Now I see that many files which I own, are downloaded from Apple Music, and they are not stored in the folder containing MY music files.

The Bowie files shown in the screenshot (left: Apple Music, files. Right: My files) are split mid-album. Many in the Apple Music Folder are duplicated as well.. Most are DRM Apple Music files. Why?

There are so many of these examples, and I dont know how to make the Music.app use MY files. there are several folders with duplicates in them, ending with a number. The numbered ones are the ones from Apple Music, and I do not want them! I want MY DRM free files!

MY files were also uploaded using iTunes Match several years ago... why aren't those files used? There are several of them in the library.

I have backups, so I can find them, but the Music app does not use them if I just drop them in the correct folder...

I regret ever subscribing to Apple Music... buying the tracks I want when new music comes out would probably be cheaper anyway...

Do i have to unsubscribe before I can start cleaning up this mess?

These backups work perfectly fine:

Use File > Add to Library to add your entire media folder to Music, which will add any locally stored files not currently known to the library. Merely placing files within the media folder is not sufficient.

See Duplicate songs in iTunes - Apple Community for advice on duplicates.

See this post I Tune Library - Apple Community for advice on split albums.

Note in the early days of the Apple Music service an additional iTunes Match subscription was required if your ripped songs were not to download to a second computer with DRM. The policy changed after several years, but depending on the exact circumstances your iCloud Music Library could contain DRM versions of tracks that you once held independently.
