How to make green exercise ring track properly?

I close my move ring every day. But I can almost never get my exercise ring to close, despite exercising. It’s frustrating, especially as I searched for this problem and can see it goes back as far as 2015. That’s 8 years to still not be working for a device that costs hundreds of dollars!?

I have tried using the workout feature. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. If I don’t wear the watch, I can add a volleyball workout easily and it adds to my ring.

But I can sit on an exercise bike for 47 minutes and have nothing show up. Sometimes half of it will count. It’s so confusing and demotivating.

How do I tell Apple to count ALL my workouts as exercise?? I don’t care if I’m not exercising like an elite athlete to some lofty standard, the point is I’m doing something and my heart rate is higher than it would be if I had stayed sitting on the couch so I want to see credit on that green ring and have a record of how I got it eg volleyball, cycling etc.

Edit - I didn’t realise the watch updated last night and looking at it all again I’m actually loving the updates - especially the indoor cycling feature available from the watch (couldnt find it on my phone) and the zone counters which show so are SO motivating to increase your heart rate and I can see it is all counting as exercise for my green ring, yay!!! So glad I looked again as I had just about given up.
