Contact Photos disappeared after update 17.1.1

How can I fix this problem?

That’s right! Apple has stolen our memories WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION! Seriously, between making the HUGE MISTAKE of buying a MacBook Pro last year and this F’n update I’ll not be upgrading to another iPhone next year! I refuse to update my iPad Pro!

I think we can all be satisfied that Apple did not intentionally do anything with your contact images, I have only one that repeatedly disappears for some reason and I can guarantee you there will be people who have had no issues. For those people that are complaining the loudest can I presume you have failed to back up your devices, this is a time when the value of doing so becomes obvious.

I don't have time for you dissertation response and I don't have time to re-insert photo by photo.

BTW, I already spent hours with Apple Care on this. The photos that I re-inserted are GONE AGAIN.

I agree. Do the developers not use apple phones? A full picture is a no brainer. An upgrade might be a small picture and the addition of a the full screen (I am trying to helpful; it is probably two lines of HTML CODE).

Apple and the rest of the world speak two different languages. To us mere mortals, "update" means better facilities without losing other stuff on the way. Apple seem bent on frustrating customers whenever they come up with "updates". Why do you guys try to fix a thing that ain't broke? What is the next update going to pack, change my passwords perhaps?! Shame on you!

Presumably, an upgrade means giving one better service, maintaining the good aspects of the previous versions. And, the customer knows what is good for him, not Apple. Is there a way to roll back to the previous version? By the way, is it practical to re-learn everything from the ground up for each "update"? Ridiculous!

I was so frustrated with this update because I could not assign contact photos... Only boring gray photos with the person's initials or a picture they chose for themselves that I did not care for. However, when you clicked on "contact photo and poster" only the option for this stupid "call poster" thing was available. I finally found a way to give a person a contact photo. First, go to your text/call/contacts and click on the person you would like to change. Then click on "contact photo and poster" Originally, it will not give you an option to change the contact photo, however, once you assign a call poster it will let you change the contact photo. This version should work if you have an apple iPhone 14 or 15.

I have had photos that I selected for certain loved ones attached to their profile so that is what I see when they call. Some of these are older pictures that are no longer saved on my iPhone and would be very difficult to try to find if I can even locate. I’m very upset. The pictures are now missing and it seems the system has taken upon itself to decide what will or will not show up under someone in my contact list. This is very invasive. I want to know how to restore those pictures. They have been on there for years until they were suddenly gone. Apple, seriously, where do you all get off deciding for me what shows up for my contacts??? The least you could’ve done is given me the option to say yes use this new picture/poster or no keep the old one. WTH?!

Hi! I was having this issue for a couple days BUT I FIXED IT. When you click on their contact and go to “edit, your former picture and contact card will be an option. Click on it and then add a new character to their name - I just added a space to end- and then you’ll be able to hit DONE to save the changes and boom, it’s back.

I figured it out. Or they fixed it. Because I did it just as I did before that didn’t work. Sheesh.
