If I don't see an update for my macOS does that mean my Mac can't be updated?

my bank website will not load because my Google Chrome needs updating. When I try to update Google Chrome, it says that my OS is not up to date. When I look for updates it says there are no apps to update. I have a very old Mac running macOS Sierra 10.12.6

Can I update this Mac?

You failed to provide a crucial element: what is your mac model? This determines whether or not you can upgrade past Sierra, and what is the latest OS you can use.

From the Apple menu, choose About this Mac, and tell us the model and year (for example: MacBook Air (13", Early 2014) or whatever it is).
