My Apple ID keeps getting locked

For the last two or three years my Apple ID gets locked. Sometimes two or three times a day I have to unlock it. Please don't suggest I upgrade to two-factor authentication. I have a work Apple ID that has that and it's nothing but a headache. That ID gets locked out a lot too. In that case I have to use another device to authenticate it. I have co-workers that have had to wipe iPhones and iPads because of two factor authentication. For some reason Apple has set the security alert soo low that anything can trigger being locked out of my own account. Because it's happened so much I changed my password word to something simple just because re-entering it was so tedious. That was weeks ago and still I get locked out. No fishing phone calls or emails and I always send spam to the spam folder.

I looked in the junk folder and there was no pattern of emails from any group in particular. Gmail is my primary email and my mac.com email is my original Apple email and some people have it in their address book and of course it's attached to my Apple ID.

I've called Apple and the answer is always try Two factor authentication. I really think that if I do that then it create a worse situation and I'll have to abandon this email address I've had for 30 years.

I used to be. a beta tester for Apple but that's when they were small. They're just too big to pay attention to individual issues like this.

Does anyone have a suggestion to get Apple to pay attention to this issue?

I started with AppleLinks, then eWorld, then iTools briefly, then Mac.com, then MobileMe, now iCloud. Became an Apple Certified Developer in 1987 (ASM, Pascal, C, and so on). I designed then created the first standards based Video TeleConferencing software (with my team) for the Mac. I designed and created the Fax software for MacOS X.

I think I can figure out how to login to iCloud without tripping a digital security wire. It is the design of the Apple account security that backfires and disables our accounts when someone tries to hack our Apple account.

I also designed and built the architecture of www-*****.**l which included security on accounts that was much better 15 years ago than what we experience today with account lockouts.

Apple needs to fix…

Ok, I have 5 e-mail addresses (one Mac.com original one) and 2 phone numbers all under the Apple account. Any of these could be used as my Apple ID for login to AppleID.apple.com hence any of them could be being used to trigger Apple’s inferior security process.

are you saying I should abandon them all and change my phone numbers just because Apple doesn’t have their security act together?

Every day sometimes 6 times a day my Mac mini says my Apple ID is locked, but it never happens on my iPhone or MacBook Air. All my desktop OS are on 14.5 and the iPhone 15 is up to date. I have all the security turned on and when this happened in May I changed my password. Sometimes the request crashed my system setting and I have to force quit. I gave up yesterday. I did a reinstall of the Sonoma I woke up this moring to my mini saying my Apple ID was locked yet again. It is never ending circle of **** and no one online has an answer.

perhaps the message was lost. You can use an iPhone phone number and the associated Apple account (aka “Apple ID”) password to login to your account. You can also use that same phone number to lock up the account hence lock up what used to be called your “Apple ID”.

how does changing any e-mail address have any positive effect on this?

Apple’s poor security, as I said before, allows anyone with your iPhone phone number to lock you out of your Apple ID
