Why did my iPhone SE 2nd gen home button die after less than 2 years?

This is unaceptable. I have tried every online suggested remedy and have called Apple support and still am stuck with using the virtual screen button. It is a pain. Apple quoted me $240 to fix the button. Really? Of course they want me to just buy a new and more expensive phone. All my previous iPhones lasted longer than that--usually 3 years or more. And the home button NEVER gave out...I usually updated, just because I wanted a newer phone. I am looking at Android now.

Yes, this is more of a complaint, than a question. But I have no recourse with a failed product that should last much longer.

Your iPhone comes with a one year warranty. You can extend that with AppleCare+. Devices fail, that is just how things are. If you decide you do not wish to have Apple repair the phone and you wish to purchase an Android device, that is your decision to make. We are users like you here and don't care if you wish to purchase a non-Apple device. The quote they gave you was for an out of warranty replacement, a refurbished device, not a repair of the button. Apple does not participate here so they don't take complaints here. Use this link if you wish to register your complaint with Apple. This is where they get all feedback. https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.htm.
