What minimum power supply is required for the new 16" Macbook Pro not to lose battery charge when in use?

What minimum power supply is required for the new 16" Macbook Pro not to lose battery charge when in use?

I ask because I would ideally like to power it from my LG UltraFine monitor, which supplies ~60W of power.

If requirements vary between chip options, an answer per chip would be much appreciated.

I'd like to chime in, as I've got a similar question as the OP. Running a new M3 Max 16" MacBook Pro that came with 140W charger. I just picked up the CalDigit Element Thunderbolt Hub, which I discovered delivers 60W to the laptop over Thunderbolt 4.

I found this thread while searching for info on whether undercharging at 60W could be damaging, which sounds like the answer is probably no.

I'm still wondering if it would be bad to have the 140W MagSafe charger connected at the same time as the CalDigit 60W power? Thinking this through, it seems like the computer will just take what power it needs, and there will be plenty available, and it's fine to keep both chargers connected simultaneously?

I don't see any way to remove or disable the 60W power supply from the thunderbolt hub, so it's getting both MagSafe 140W and CalDigit 60W – is this okay?

I think the answer to your query as asked for the 16-in is 100 Watts normally, and up to 140 Watts for Fast Charging over the MagSafe. Now that there are 240 Watts USB cables, you might be able to Fast Charge with one of those.

Your computer performs best when connected to AC power. It can use the full output of the Power Adapter AND when doing especially challenging work will also freely "borrow" power from the battery. In some cases, even with the power adapter connected, the charged state may decline during stressful work.

The fine details of whether that would work for you are centered in whether you are willing to sometimes draw down battery power a bit if doing lot of intensive work.
