iPhone hacked via Android?

I was texting with a friend today. Right after one of her text bubbles came a picture of a cartoon pig with dollar signs for eyes. I touched the picture to expand it expecting of course that my friend sent it. She said she didn’t send it but that it shows up every once in a while since her phone was hacked. She said her carrier cleared her phone of spyware/malware. I immediately updated my iPhone and changed my Apple ID. My friend has an Android.

Do I have any reason to be concerned that I was hacked by clicking on the picture? If so, what should I do?

The moral of the story is: dangerous pics and links sometimes come from known sources as well.

About a Hacked iPhone:

Unfortunately, there is no way to determine if it has been hacked, unless you know that it has been jailbroken. And, the only way for an iPhone to have hacked is if it has been jailbroken.

So, what to do...

Resetting to Factory Settings:

If you are so concerned, then reset you iPhone to factory settings, as if you were to sell it. Go here: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Perform as instructed there, including the backup creation and iCloud logout.

Avoiding Calls & Popups:

Three things to consider...

A. Report this to Apple and Others:

Next time this happens, take screenshots of messages that pop up, and forward them to Apple.  Overview my User Tip: Using the Photos App to Report Scams: - User Tip

B. Malwarebytes Mobile Security:

If you were to use Malwarebytes Mobile Security then that may do the job, somewhat. It blocks out suspected scams, based on the sender's phone number. The paid version lets you report a number - once reported, it blocks it out, not even allowing it to go through.  Malwarebytes is created by longtime users of these forums, making it the only reliable Security Software for Apple devices. Go Here: Malwarebytes Mobile Security - App Store

C. Brave Bowser:

Try using the Brave Private Web Browser. It blocks out all sorts of junk. You can get it directly in the App StoreBrave Private Web Browser - App Store
