Same issue here - has anyone found a fix?
Every day I find 2K+ messages from a single contact are in the Recently Deleted section of messages. I restore the messages every day and yet they continue being deleted on their own every day. The days until permanent deletion continues to count down, now at 12 days.
The deleted messages span from the beginning of our text history up through a certain date, but subsequent messages are not impacted.
I have iMessage enabled in iCloud on both my iPhone 14 Pro Max (iOS 17.6.1) and MacBook Pro (Mac OS Sonoma 14.6.1). Both iPhone and MacBook are set to keep messages Forever and to sync messages to iCloud.
The messages are not being deleted from the MacBook. But, if the messages do get permanently deleted from the iPhone in 12 days, I don’t know if they will also be permanently deleted from iCloud and thereby also disappear forever from the MacBook.
These are messages are deeply personally important - though this issue is completely unacceptable regardless of the nature of content since it’s an ongoing issue across multiple users and Apple is well aware based on multiple complaints and calls with support to fix it.
I’ll call Apple as well & post any solutions.
