App store crashing
Just updated my computer to Sonoma 14.1.1 and the App store keeps crashing on my mac every time I open it.
Is there a fix to this? I tried clearing my cache as well.

Unsure if mentioned because I noticed many people saying that you need to click on a tab other than Discovery to get the App Store to stay open, but if you have apps that need to be updated, you can also open the App Store under the Apple Settings icon in the top left (drop-down that holds the 'About this Mac' pop-up) and it will open the App Store into the Updates page rather than Discovery.

Same issue, on macs from a M1 Max Macbook pro to a Mac Studio running MacOS 14+. The 2013 Macbook on version 11 wasn't affected. Reboot didn't resolve the issue. Tried dance moves like removing cache, killing processes, and so on mentioned here, didn't resolve the issues either. Like others mentioned, clicking your way out of Discover let you pass the DOA. AppStore crashes immediately if you click your way back at Discover.
So don't Discover on AppStore for now I guess.
ok, launching App Store and then very-very-quickly clicking on any of its left-side tabs other than "Discover" did work ok as the workaround for me (and then that other selected tab becomes the default the next time the App Store is launched). One just has to be super quick about it, since the App Store window only stays open for a very brief time before it crashes on the "Discover" tab.
If you open and click on ANY other view (Arcade, Create, Work, Updates, etc.) before it crashes it will stay open. I did this and was able to then click on search and download Xcode.
Issue for me has been completely resolved. and Id like to thank epitaphmike for coming up with temporary solution.
Here are the steps I followed:
Same here MBP M1. OS 14.1.1
I reinstalled OS from recovery. Didn’t fix problem. Then restarted in safe mode opened up App Store and it didn’t crash. Restarted Mac, still logged in. Logged in back in after restarting. App Store woks. No more crashing.
CLICK ANY SECTION EXCEPT DISCOVER and it will stay loaded / active. DO NOT click Discover!
can confirm. it took some doing because the studio processes so quickly the crashing App Store window disappears almost instantly so difficult to click on the updates tab, but once I did, it stayed open and let me look for updates without crashing.
I concur with all so far:
Running MacBook Air 2020 Intel Core i3
Sonoma 14.1.1 (23B81)
Needed to click out of "Discover" on the App Store to prevent crashing. I submitted a report three times.
Glad to see that this problem happens on both Mx and Intel Macs, then again I wish the problem did not happen at all. Must be a Thanksgiving 2023 glitch.
Same issue on my end. I noticed the issue is occurring specifically when loading the main Discover page. My workaround is quickly changing the category upon opening the app. When you attempt to return to the Discover page, it will crash the app again. It's safe to say the Discover category is causing the app to crash.
Yes, can confirm that IF you can be quick enough to click any other section but Discover it is fine. It is loading the Discover page that crashes it.
Took me several times to be quick enough!!
I can confirm that being quick and clicking on something other than the discover page will get you up and running. Might take a few tries. It is the Discover page that is crashing the App Store.
I've been seeing this issue today as well. Noticed around November 23, 2023 13:00 America/Chicago. I attempted to remove `com.apple.appstore` from both ~/Library/Caches and $TMPDIR../C/, but didn't not noticed an improvement. Like there another user report, if I click out of "Discovery" fast enough, the App Store stays open. Based on other comments, smells like a broader issue.
Turn off the MacBook. Hold the power button on until it gives you the “option” icon. Reinstall Macintosh HD. That’s the only thing that worked for me today. I tried everything else. Make sure to backup. It takes about 4 hours to complete. My MacBook Air just did this earlier today. I see I’m not the only one.
Thanks for this suggestion of clicking on one of the other areas (not Discover) before the crash. This worked for me as well. I had to try a few times, as this new M3 Max is very fast. But I got it to work by clicking on Arcade before it crashed and now have access to the Appstore. Hope this gets fixed soon.
