Sometimes iMovie Doesn't Import

MacOS current version, iMovie current version.

I wanted to edit two videos that were in MP4 format and played nicely in QuickTime Player. Launched iMovie on my MacBook Air2 and was able to add one of the videos from Photos to iMovie. It would not drag to the Timeline. Same with the other video. Earlier photos and videos would drag to the Timeline as they should. Same thing when importing one of the videos from the desktop.

Using iMovie on my iPhone Pro Max 14, I was able to create the project and add one of the videos to that project. Exported the Project for use on another device. Was able to open the project on my MacBook Air and complete my work on that video.

And now...the other video that did not work earlier did get imported to its new project and I was able to drag it to the Timeline, edit it and complete my work.

What gives?

The latest updates have had some glitches. This might be one of them.

Try deleting preferences. To delete preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if you can get consistent imports.
