Music items copied to iPod

I have an iMac used for storage of music. I sync music from the library to my iPod. The problem is when I sync music to my iPod (I think it’s 8th generation), I get this message: Some items including (a named song) were not copied to the iPod “the name I used for the iPod” because they cannot be played on this iPod. How is it that some songs are not synched? Also, some of music in my library on the iMac were not bought from Apple music. Some music as copied from CDs or from other sources such as music that was digitized from vinyl. This is a puzzle and irritating!

The issue will be either that the songs are in a format that the iPod cannot play or that the bit rate or sample rate is too high.

Identify any one of the pieces of music that gives the message that it cannot be played on the iPod and find out what format the track is in:

    • to find out which songs are affected, there should be a small + symbol included with the can't copy message. Click the + symbol to see a list of affected items and make a note of which ones they are
    • in the main viewing window of iTunes, select one of affected songs from that list and right-click the title and choose Song Info from the menu (this displays the song's Details panel)
    • using the screenshot below as your guide:

    • switch to the File panel (1.) and look for the kind field (2.). What does it say?
    • also look at the location field to find the file extension (3.) of the song. What does that say?
    • the bit rate and the sample rate information (4.) might be helpful too

If you include a screenshot of the File panel, make sure to erase any personal information, such as email address or purchase ID of a song purchased from Amazon (although I would not expect any Amazon file to be affected by this).

As you're using a Mac OS 13.6.1, you will be using Finder to manage your device (as there is no iTunes for your Mac's OS). Perhaps then, the messages are slightly different, hence no + symbol.

But that doesn't matter. The important thing is that you have a list of songs that did not copy to your iPod.

Refer to the rest of my previous post, which is to examine the Bit Rate and file type (kind) for those songs. I don't know the exact steps in Finder, but there must be a way on your Mac to look at the fields I mentioned:

  • bit rate
  • kind (file type)
  • sample rate
  • file extension

and that's what you need to look for.

For any one (or more, if you wish), what do the fields mentioned above look like for those songs?

Thanks for your reply! The only message that appears is the error message I stated earlier about some of the files not being copied. There is no symbol such as the + and not having that negates a listing of the items affected. Something I did not do before when this happened was save the error, clicking on the save button in the window. I did this time, saving it and essentially it is a repeat of the message with a listing of all the songs that were not copied. Here’s a small sample since there are some 20 songs not copied:

Some items, including “Poet”, were not copied to the iPod “###########’s iPod” because they cannot be played on this iPod.

“Night Dancer” was not copied because the audio format is not supported by the iPod “###############’s iPod”.

“And You Call That Love” was not copied because the audio format is not supported by the iPod “###############’s iPod”.

“One Night Affair” was not copied because the audio format is not supported by the iPod “###############’s iPod”.

None of the songs are marked with a symbol of any kind. By the way, on my iMAC is operating system Ventura version 13.6.1.

Thanks
