Why do I have to download a 3th party app to read/edit a plain text file?

Why do I have to download a 3th party app to read/edit a plain text file? Is it too much to incorporate a tiny text reader/editor in iOS or iPadOS? This is since 40 years a normal feature in every os I can remember. Why not on an iPad or iPhone?

Plain text files can be natively viewed in iPadOS16/17 using Quick Look. For example, when viewing a text (.txt) file from the native Files App, a simple tap should open the Quick Look viewer. Alternatively, a touch-and-hold the filename to open the Action Menu.

You might also consider adding a Quick Look Shortcut. To save unnecessary typing, here is an online tutorial:

Well that is not a solution, when I click a text file, unbelievably my Winrar app opens and opens the text file in their overview menu screen. That is because I as end user of this OS can not associate a text file to an app I prefer. That is Apple’s choice and I do not understand what are the benefits for me as a user. The other solution you gave is opening the context menu after long pressing the file name. I can then use the Quick View option, but that only give me a non editable version of the txt file and that is only a text file with the txt extension. When you change the extension for instance to *.aaa I get a blanc window in Quick View. Al lot of text files have different extensions, for instance readme files or installation files. Those can not be opened normally on an IPad/Iphone. And I think that is a strange choice, because this function is available for decades on every OS.
