Refurbished iPads

Looking to get the kids a refurbished iPad what the lowest gen I can go to sonic still gets updates?? Will an iPad 5th gen be ok or do I need to go for a 6/7th gen for the updates!!

I’ve no idea 😂

Do Apple-refurbished iPhones come with old or current iOS? I'm thinking of getting an Apple-refurbished iPhone, probably a model from a couple years ago. Does anyone know if Apple updates the iOS for those? Or does it depend on what the previous user had installed most recently? Thanks

but the latest ipadOS17 are supported by the following ipads
