Importing pictures from iphoto library into Photos in Ventura 13.6.1

When I attempt to open an old iPhoto library in Photos, I am told to open Photos (with a new library) and IMPORT all the photos from the old library because the for mats are incompatible so I cant simply open them

But when I try to do so, Photos WILL let me import the pictures but WON'T let me add them to my (now) new library?? Photos also doesnt seem to be opening the pictures within the iPhoto events. It seems to be looking at them as one event of 16,000 pictures and importing them as such!

It isnt seriously asking me to import/split up the library manually event by event, is it? There are hundreds of events!

Or am I supposed to install Mojave into a VM, openthe old iPhoto library and have it saved/updated automatically in some new format which Photos will be able to open in Ventura?? Or update the VM to Ventura to get the library to update the library format?

If you've put a lot of organizational effort into the library you might want to use the paid version of PowerPhotos to merge the old library into a new one. The following is a comparison of PowerPhotos vs Photos in merging libraries:

PowerPhotos: Photos:

Albums -----------

Smart Albums (as regular albums) -----------

Folders -----------

Captions Captions

Titles Titles

Original images Original images

Edited images Edited images

Locations Locations

Favorites Favorites

Can detect and exclude Duplicates detected after import

duplicates (or not) during import

Neither method included projects.

Both methods could import older iPhoto libraries into a Photos library when the iPhoto library couldn't be migrated into a Photos library.

Apple told me that it was quite common for users not to want to move from iphoto to photos when I commented that organizing them was so much more difficult in Photos. They even said that many users didnt want to upgrade their OS beyond Mojave for this reason. Especially when not using an iPhone as a primary camera.

You aren't suggesting incompatibility arises out of spite, are you? I had to keep my old computer alive for this reason and, of course, because of the problems using a newer MBP for word processing, - with the palm rejection problems in that ridiculously large touchpad.

I'll bet there is a solution to this incompatibility..
