How to use iPad as monitor for camera?

My dad is registered blind but has some sight. He has an iPad Pro and would like to use it as a monitor so he can see things up close which are captured via another source (camera, phone, whatever might work). For instance he attends guitar classes and ideally we would set up a camera in front of the teacher and my dad could look at the iPad (he holds it very close to his eyes) to see the detail of what his teacher is doing.

I think until recently external web cams couldn’t be used but ios17 has changed that?

I don’t really want to use a third party screen mirroring app as I think he’ll struggle to make that work when I’m not there. Is there some kind of webcam which could wirelessly (or wired) send the live image to the iPad? Or if not could this be achieved with an iPhone? I see screen mirroring won’t work with an iPad which is sad!

Grateful for any advice or ideas.
