Transfering Folders and Files using file sharing

I am having issues transferring folders from my iPad to my PC, transferring files works, but not folders. I have found another way, but it takes a long time to do. Also, transferring files and folders from PC to iPad is the same situation. Is there an easier way to do this? Because what I am doing now is zipping the file, sending it via Dropbox to another iPad, and unzipping and placing the file. I am really doing this, because I don't have enough iCloud space, and I don't really want to pay (despite how cheap it is)
