Apple Music no longer shows album artwork on playlists

Hi All, anyone else noticed this issue since the last Apple update?

Now when creating a new playlist, of either an album or a compilation, cover artwork does not get updated and show (adding to Library does allow artwork but you still can't then transfer this to your playlist).

Instead on Playlists it defaults to a standard colour 'design' which has nothing to do with the original album or artist.

I contacted apple support who advised this was to make it more aesthetic and pleasing, and that there is no option to revert to have album artwork.

Is it just me, but surely most music lovers would much prefer to see album artwork rather than an impersonal and featureless design on their playlists - or at the very least have the option to choose this.

The design patterns and colours vary but not by much, so if you have lots of playlists as I do, they're all going to look pretty much the same and difficult to distinguish (very boring also!)

All other competitors Spotify, Qobuz etc I'm aware of allow album artwork on their playlists

Be interested what others think - if you agree submit feedback to Apple in the hope they change it back! Product Feedback - Apple

I'm a loyal apple user have used music for years, but seriously if this issue if not fixed I'll be transferring to another platform

Please Apple!!!! We prefer the old method of creating a playlist that loads the albumcovers! This new "color" is terribly boring!

While we are here, can we please choose a default setting for the field options for playlists!!!

Why must we change settins whenever we log on?

PLEASE!!! hear us and respond!!!

Response on this forum is 100% negative. Hopefully most have submitted necessary formal feedback also Product Feedback - Apple - hope Apple actually listen and eventually put right!

I have a moderately large library (about 5000-6000 albums, 1.5 TB) and I haven't noticed any significant slowdown recently. Well, that's not completely true. Two things are very slow:

assigning artwork to an album takes a lot longer in Salmonella than in the previous OS version.
and of course, changing the current library from one external drive to another keeps getting slower and slower with every Apple Music update (it's a 1h+ affair for me now), but I am sure that this is by design. Even Apple programmers must be aware of the super advanced concept of relative path, and so they choose to remap the location of every single music file in the library every time the external storing the music library is changed.

Same issue here with album art after recent 17.4.1 update. This only impacts new playlists. But here is what works, at least for now.

Create a new playlist.
Add few songs to new playlist.
Album art with first 4 songs will be generated but within a minute or less it will be reverted to default gradient image.
Before iOS reverts to default image, select edit to modify the album art and take a screenshot.
Edit screenshot photo accordingly.
Use screenshot photo as new album art.

Are you running current versions of iOS and macOS? The behaviour has changed in recent versions. Plus, it's only an issue on new playlists. Ones created before the change are fine.
