If leroydouglas is correct that MWP42LL/A translates to MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt Ports), then the closest Apple Silicon counterparts would be the

  • 14" MacBook Pros based on the M3 Pro and Max chips (current models)
  • 14" MacBook Pros based on the M2 Pro and Max chips (now discontinued)
  • 14" MacBook Pros based on the M1 Pro and Max chips (now discontinued)

These have three USB4 (Thunderbolt 4) ports, a HDMI port, a MagSafe 3 port, and a SDXC card slot. I think the Pro models can drive two external displays, and the Max models can drive three.

The 13" M1/M2 MacBook Pros are the conceptual equivalent of the old low-end 13" MBPs that had two Thunderbolt ports. As is the 14" M3 MacBook Pro that has the 'base' M3 chip. It's picked up some of the features of the higher-end models but still has only two USB-C (TB) ports and still supports only a single external display.

One piece of good news for the OP is that you can now get just about any configuration (processor, RAM, SSD) in a 14" MBP that you can get in a 16" MBP. In the Intel days, the high-end 13" MBPs always trailed the 15"/16" MBPs – now the choice between 14"/16" is more about portability and cost than being able to get certain options at all.

There is no current 13" to compare M3 — 14" and 16" only

please note: MacBookPro16,2

if what you seek is equivalent compute power, ANY Apple-Silicon Mac, INCLUDING any MacBook AIR can out-compute the four-core Intel Mac you have now. if you frequently push its computing/graphics really hard, it will get too hot and slow down.

But many find MacBook Air default 8G memory too small, and some find its only TWO thunderbolt ports too few. (But it does have a separate MagSafe power inlet.)

Those whose Intel Mac disks are full, think its default 512 GB drive is too small.

Some find limited to ONE external display is not enough.
