As you have already been told, the answer is no.
Anti-virus software manufacturers make fortunes preying on the fears of users . . . in the case of Windows computers they probably have some justification but almost all problems are caused by users doing unsafe things such as visiting dodgy sites and downloading and opening unsafe items.
If you are really paranoid you could use the free Malwarebytes which is probably the only suitable one for Macs.
Should you ever get an alarming popup saying your Mac is infected with viruses, ignore it!
It's a scam and if you click on any links contained within it you could possibly open yourself up to a real infection.

Nope. Third party anti-virus is not recommended. It will only slow down your Mac and conflict with the built in security. Your system is locked down in a read only partition on your drive, so no applications or viruses can write to it. Feel free to search these forums for "AntiVirus" by using the Search tab on the top of the screen.
As others already said, 3rd party anti-virus is not recommended.

Using Extra Security for a Mac:
Is it Needed?:
A. Perhaps. So, who is the owner? If this is for personal use, then keep it off of you Mac. But, if this owned by a school or an employer,, then obey the rules, and keep it installed. Read the threads posted on the forums over-the-years, and you'd find plenty examples of how and why Security Software just gets in the way on an Apple device:
B. Scan with Malwarebytes for Mac:
Malwarebytes searches for malware (short for malicious software) and spyware. Malware makes your Mac behave in a mislead manor. Malwarebytes is created by longtime users of these forums, making it the only reliable Security Software for a Mac. Remove what is found from the quarantine.

C. Important:
Create a Time Machine Backup, First:
Prior to the re-installation of your macOS, be certain to backup your Mac using a Time Machine Backup. That way, you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall. Use an external hard drive that is at least 1.5 the total storage capacity.
