After purchase, do you know where the card was used? What is was used on/or purchased?

I made a gift card purchase of $300 and then when the card was to be used, they said that the card was not activated was reflected. I was charged to my account the $300 and the card was defective. Can you tell me if someone scanned the card at payment? not swiped properly? The military exchange said once purchased, they can not do anything and I needed to get with APPLE Customer service. Can you tell me if the card was used? and or what may have been purchased with the monies on the card if I provide the barcode number, the card number and code on the inside card?
