Lacie portable storage

I need some help with LaCie. I see that Apple sells them so thought I could get some great info here. I have an older one, like years older. I want to upgrade because both my devices are now usb-c. Thank you Apple. Need to know if it can be directly connected to iPad to directly transfer photos over. How do I transfer info on older one to new one? Don’t see how they can both be connected to my Air at the same time. I looked on the LaCie support page and it wasn’t very helpful.
