I am copying music files (not purchased from iTunes) from a Mac (Monterey 12.1) to a USB Flash Drive. This process inserts a number (eg, 01, 02, 03, etc.) in front of the music file's Name for some, but not all, of the songs. As I copy more and more files to the USB, the number increases sequentially. I don't want the number in the title affixed to each song. This impacts both mp3 and m4a files. Is there a fix for this "problem"?

Are you sure those numbers are not already there in the library copy of the files?
No. I checked the Inspector for both files. The original file names have no numbers while selected copied-files have numbers (inserted before the names) that increment with each transfer. This occurred in earlier OS’s also.

Strange. I can't reproduce the problem. I wonder if it only happens on music files.
Yes, this occurs when copying music onto a flash drive to listen in the car.
