How do I rearrange pick and choose photos inside an Apple Photo album?

Question

How do I rearrange pick and choose photos inside an Apple Photo album?

We used to be able to pick and choose photos and drag it where we want to see the photos within the group of photos . Now we can still do it but the photos cannot be drag more than the perimeter of window screen.

I don't want to sort it by date , or anything else. I want to drag in a specific place within an album. How can we slide the choose photos and bring it where we want to have it in a continuous process ?

Are you really using macOS 10.10 Yosemite? That's 8 versions old, so it's been awhile!

My experience has been that when I try to move a picture in an album I've made, it would reach the top or bottom edge of the screen and stop. But I could manually scroll the window while holding on to the thumbnail and I could get it where I wanted it. It takes some dexterity on a touchpad! I would hold the thumbnail with my thumb on the click button and scroll with two fingers.

I'm a version behind--I'm still using Ventura. I just discovered that when I move a thumbnail, the screen auto scrolls just as it should! I'm not at all sure when this change occurred, but I'm really pleased. I'd say, if you can, update to the newest Ventura, at least, or to Sonoma (which I haven't checked.)

That's right. But you can move a picture through an album over several pages by holding the picture and scrolling simultaneously, so it's doable. And it wasn't fixed with Ventura, exactly-- it just seems to work in the newest Ventura, now. It still seems a little squirrelly.

I am seeing it still in macOS Sonoma. But we have to click through many layers of the System Settings > Accessibility > Pointer Control > Trackpad Options to enable the three finger drag.

Richard ! Thank you for your hints. I find it how to scroll down a picture. You can do it with the ' Three finger drag' on the magic mouse or a Trackpad. So attached photo. It is working ! All the best ! :)

Thank you Richard for taking the time to bring a solution. Actually, I was able to move pictures from top to bottom of the album and place it beside a chosen photo(s) when I had the High Sierra version. When I upgrade to Big Sur, this function was not possible anymore. I tough there may be an other way to move a photo where we in an album. But this is not the case.

Unfortunately, my computer is to old to upgrade to Montery or Ventura or Somona.

So if I read you well, with Big Sur, I cannot move a thumbnail and having the screen auto scrolls just as it should!

But with Ventura, they fixed it and you can do it. Right ?

How do you scroll simultaneously with a mouse ? If I clic to hold a picture with my mouse, I don't see how I can scroll at the same time with my mouse. may be a touch pad is needed ? Thank you Richard for you help.

Oops, I'm not sure-- I don't use a mouse; I use a trackpad. I do have a 3rd party track-ball that has a scroll wheel on it that I imagine would work.

Before I discovered scrolling and dragging simultaneously, I would make the thumbnails very small, so there would be maybe 40 or 50 on the screen, and then move a picture up one window at a time. That gets a bit old...
