A screenshot in Column View, as LocaAlicia requested, will help us determine if you are placing these effects in the correct location.
The fact that they are not working suggests that either they are not where they need to be, or the folders are not properly localized.
For comparison, here is an image showing the location for transitions:
Note that there is a folder (in this example, "Lichinho") between Transitions and the actual transitions. This is a category, and will appear in FCP grouping the related items. The same applies for Effects, Titles and Generators.
Also: each of the folders "Motion Templates", "Effects", "Transitions", "Titles" and "Generators" must be localized: select in the Finder, press Command-I, and in the Info window add the .localized extension.
Do NOT add it for the category folders, nor for each particular effect folder.
The extension is hidden when viewing these folders in Finder, but is required by FCP.

Did you add .localized to the Motion Templates and Effects folders?
In the Final Cut Pro menu, you need to Download Additional Content first so FCPX can create the proper folders and such.
Apple has offered the free trial for 90 days since the early days of Covid and they say this about the Additional Content.
Does the Final Cut Pro trial have any limitations?
Final Cut Pro Additional Content, which includes over 1300 royalty-free sound effects for use in your projects, isn’t available in the Final Cut Pro trial. The trial is fully-functional otherwise.
You can import media, edit, organize, add effects, color correct, export files in a variety of professional formats, and more. Get an overview of Final Cut Pro.
its not reading the effects I have installed.
Please show me a screenshot of where the effect is located in Finder so I can see the path.
I seem to recall someone saying that the Additional Content is not available in the Trial version.
I am happy to buy the program but I want to make sure it works first. I have used it before but now its not reading the effects I have installed.
Is there some blockage because I have used the program in the past that the TRIAL is not fully working?
Not true, the trial version is 100%, zero limitations, except it stops working after a month.
I don’t think voice recording works unless it’s been put back in recently.
