Messages app freezes every time I open it - macOS Monterey 12.5

My Messages app first froze right when I opened a chat with a friend. I force quit the app and re-opened it, but the app instantly froze again without giving me enough time to change to another chat. I believe that the app is freezing because of the particular chat with my friend but I'm not sure how I can switch to another chat before the instant freeze occurs. I tried restarting my computer but the Messages app still retained the memory of the last viewed chat (the one causing the freeze). Is there a way to reset the Messages app so that it doesn't automatically open to the previous chat that is causing it to freeze?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?
