Air Drop - music - only works if you have an Apple Music Subscription?

SO and I have iPhone 15's, latest iOS.

Now that we both have iPhones, tried to share a song I had purchased on iTunes and downloaded/sync to my iPhone. Find the song, do the Share-> Air Drop, it sends. He gets the song, but when he clicks/presses on it, all it does it take him to an Apple Music Subscription Sign up page.

From googling/etc. it *seems* that somewhere around iOS 14/15? Apple changed the Air Drop "sharing" so that can not share music any longer unless you purchase an Apple Music subscription? Is this true/correct?

(There's some older articles about Home Sharing, but you apparently need a Mac or something to do that, and we have Windows OS PC's, so no go there).
