apple charger melted?

I noticed a weird smell from my iPad charger last Friday. When I checked the charger the wire and plug had fused together and I had to use force to separate them. I looked inside and the back of the plug showed black and metal in the innermost part. The inside of the wire almost ‘fizzed’ up and the normally thin white layer had bubbled up but was not peeling away from the metal outer layer. The charger still works but with a weird smell (quite frankly I’m afraid to use it). I went to the Apple Store today to tell them and they said it was discoloured inside due to liquid getting in it and since it still theoretically works should be fine and they can’t do anything about it. I tried to explain to her 1) I keep my wired in my drawer so no liquid could get to it and 2) it’s not just discoloured but literally melted through the back and she got a torch and everything to look inside but still refused to acknowledge the clear metal in the back. She said liquid caused it and it’s my fault. She also said it should be fine throughout since it is just ‘discoloured’ throughout the consultation but at the end told me she recommended I don’t use it anymore and buy another one. I by no means ever claim to know everything and I am definitely open to someone explaining better to me but I feel like this is a clear fault in the charger which isn’t my fault and if I could a replacement one or at least one at a reduced cost. Im a uni student and use my ipad everyday but haven’t been able to use it since then and don’t have much money for another one. I just feel like I was being ignored and no matter what I said she would just repeat the same phrases over and over again to me. If someone could explain where I am wrong I would be grateful.
