I started my iMac using Command+Option+R to connect to the internet and install the OS. When installing to the disk, it loads completely and then I get a message "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running the application again".
I've gone into the Disk Utility to repair the disk, but it shows no errors.

Awesome! Using your MacBook Pro, you can create a bootable installer for macOS Monterey to use on your iMac to reinstall macOS.
To do this, you need an external hard disk or flash drive that you don't mind erasing. Before proceeding, I do have one more question; do you have a Mid or Late 2015 iMac? If you don't know, find the serial number printed on the underside of your Mac, near the regulatory markings. It’s also on the original packaging, next to a barcode label. You can then enter that serial number on the Check Coverage page to find your model.

I had a couple chats with Apple Support, and they recommended either bringing it into an Apple store or submitting the case to their engineering team.

It goes straight to Starting Internet Recovery. I also have a 2021 Macbook Pro.
