Unable to install macOS Sierra on iMac 2013

I was given a late 2013 iMac with ChromeOS Flex and I want to install macOS. Cmd+R and Cmd+Opt+R didn't work as ChromeOS deleted the recovery partition. I downloaded Sierra 10.12 from Apple's site and burned it to a USB with TransMac (I don't have another Mac). I inserted the USB, did Cmd+R, connected to Wi-Fi, selected the USB and the macOS installer started. I erased 'APPLE HDD' and tried to install to it. It said 'macOS could not be installed on your computer. The operation couldn't be completed. Undefined error: 0. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.' Restarting made no difference. I ran 'date 0712122318' as shown in a video, restarted and ran 'date'. It kept the date I set. This made no difference.

That may actually be a hopeful sign. That particular error code simply means the Mac cannot establish a secure connection to Apple's servers. There can be a variety of reasons. Try a different Wi-Fi network, Ethernet... etc. In rare cases resetting NVRAM has been reported to work: Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

If your Mac starts up to error -1008F - Apple Support describes a similar error condition. If that Mac has been "activation locked" as described in that document though, it's a show-stopper. There is no circumventing it... not unless the Apple Account holder deactivates it for that Mac.

Internet Recovery (⌘ ⌥ R) does not require a Recovery partition, so something else is going on. I have no idea what "ChromeOS Flex" is or what it does, so it is possible installing it corrupted the EFI Firmware required to load Internet Recovery, in which case you're out of luck with that Mac.

You could try installing a Linux variant such as Linux Mint: https://linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

Be advised I have other Linux installations on Macs but not that particular one.

Thanks for your reply. ChromeOS is a Linux variant used on Chromebooks. Since I erased it and inserted the USB, I can press Cmd+Opt+R. I want macOS.

Edit: I now get 'apple.com/support -1007F' when I press Cmd+Opt+R and connect to Wi-Fi.
