Apple TV switching HDMI input automatically in Sony TV

I have an Apple TV 4k (2nd gen) and a Sony X90L. My AV receiver is an Integra DRX 3.4.

What happens is when I change audio output from TV speakers to audio system (AV receiver) in the Sony, the Apple TV force switches the input to HDMI 3 (which is the eArc slot). I then have to grab the sony remote to switch input back to the input where the Apple TV is connected to, in the case HDMI input 2. It would automatically switch inputs twice until the output is set to audio system.

I've chatted with Sony support and we were able to isolate the issue that it only occurs when the Apple TV is connected. No other devices I have such as the 4k player, PS5, or Nintendo Switch force switches the input when changing audio output.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue with their Apple TV when connected to a Sony TV with an AV receiver or a soundbar using earc/arc? Any thoughts or solutions would be appreciated.

The same thing happens with my Samsung TV. Definitely seems to be an Apple TV issue. Not sure why its trying to specify a TV input, would be nice to disable this when using a receiver. The workarounds I've found:

press the power button on the apple tv again after startup. This seems to set the tv input back to the correct input, but brings up the quick control menu, which is also annoying.
Just switch the connection between the receiver and tv to the input the Apple TV prefers. In my case its HDMI 4. This is what I've settled on for now. Since I don't use the TV for anything except video output, it doesn't seem to matter that its not an ARC port. Doesn't seem like I should have to do that, but it makes the process of turning on my setup seamless again.

TBH, I'm not super impressed with the overall experience with the ATV for an Apple product. Lots of "quirks" and I'm frequently resetting either the box or the remote to fix problems.
