Multitasking the biggest killer of the iPhone battery life?

I know you may all say that multitasking has no effect on battery life what so ever as it closes the running App and when double clicking the home key and holding your finger down on the App to remove it from the multitasking dock it makes no difference.
And that only Apps that take multitasking into account like Spotify and GPS based Apps like Maps which will decrease the battery life if still running.
But I have seen that even though if you have no Apps running in the multitasking dock, the battery life still does decrease quite rapidly in IOS4.
Multitasking does contribute a lot to battery drain from what I have witnessed. Just hope in 4.1 the issue of rapidly decreasing battery life is fixed, as I am on my second handset and witness even worse battery drain now running 4.02 (it will be down to 50% in 11 hours, in which running 4.0 would only reach that percentage in 24hrs).

Who cares?

The habitual whiners here whined about not being able to "multitask" with the iPhone which most of those mental midgets not understanding that the iPhone has supported multitasking since day one - just not with 3rd party apps which also means they don't know what multitasking is or means. As more features are added including multitasking with 3rd party apps even with the overwhelming majority of 3rd party apps not running in the background since there is no reason or benefit for the overwhelming majority of 3rd party apps to run in the background, more battery will be used. Proof that is is impossible to make everyone happy and the habitual whiners will find something to whine about.

Who cares????

....the people who now have decreased battery life- that were fine with the way the phone worked prior to 4.x.

And in reality, how many people "whined for multitasking"????? I ssupect it was more a case of Apple just wanting to "keep up with the Jones's" (ie Palm and Android).

And as it is a simple ON / OFF setting in the System Files- WHY, WHY not let users just decide for themselves??????? (A simple ON / OFF in the Settins Menu)

Can I ask Allan, are you a representative for Apple? By your high post count, I just wondered whether you are an employee? An "average" of 20 posts PER DAY for the last SEVEN AND A HALF YEARS!!!!

Regardless of whether you are or not; are you capable of healthy, civilised debate? (without resorting to insult tactics)

First off, there is no way to turn off the fast app switching bar. The reason why apple did not put that on the iphone 3G is because of the performance issue.

Second, only a hacked phone would have the ability to turn off this feature, a non-hacked regular iphonoe 4 does not have this feature. If you really want to see this feature for a non-hacked iphone, then simply leave a feedback to Apple.

Also I don't believe that multi-tasking drains the battery at all. Most apps that has the multi-tasking ability aren't actually running in the background, but rather in a frozen state so that when you come back to it, you are start back where you left off. The only apps that do run in the background, is using the navigation app (that uses GPS), when you actually use it to navigate as you go to places, otherwise after you reach your location, the app would stop in it's own and would no longer be needed to run in the background. I personally, don't close any apps that are in my fast-app bar, and my battery runs just fine, I haven't noticed any battery drain. The only time I notice the drain is when I'm actually on the app itself.

Sure you may disagree with me but we all have different opinions about this.
