New at this point in time should be an M3 chip, not M1 or M2 as those are prior generations. It will depend on your budget, what your use of the laptop will entail, and how long you plan to keep it.
The M1 Airs lack the MagSafe 3 port and upgraded sound system found on the M2 Airs.
You can't get the M3 chip on MacBook Airs yet – only the M2 chip.
There is a 14" M3 MacBook Pro with a 'base' M3 chip. It has the same number of USB-C (TB) ports as a M2 Air (two), the same limit on the number of external monitors (one), and the same RAM size choices.
It depends on your budget. If you're not on a tight budget, I would go for the newest model with the newest chip
