Do not try to charge it. You could short it out doing so. It would be advisable to power the phone off and leave it out in the open to dray for a couple days. DO NOT put it in rice. That's an old wife's tail, which is bad to do.

Water and electronics are not good friends. Over time, if water got into the electronics the phone could become permanently damaged. There is no warranty for liquid damage and Apple won't try to fix a liquid damaged iPhone.

Be prepared to buy a new iPhone if your phone doesn't work correctly after letting it dry out.

The phone is fine to use and charge, just dry it off. It's water resistant to 1 meter in depth

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. Yes, an iPhone is water resistant. But the measurement is under strict controlled lab conditions. And water resistance is not permanent as over time an iPhone's seals can dry out and make the phone easier to damage. This is an iPhone 8, which was released in 2017, six years ago.

Charging an iPhone which got dropped in water is not only BAD advice, it's dangerous advice.

Hello~ You are incorrect. See below…

If you see a liquid-detection alert on your iPhone - Apple Support*

*If you charge your iPhone while the Lightning or USB-C connector is wet, the pins on the connector or cable can corrode and cause permanent damage or stop functioning, causing connectivity issues.

You should never try to charge a wet iPhone as it could result in permanent damage to your device unless it is an emergency and you are willing to damage your device.

That's why I said to dry it off first. I should have been more specific and said dry off the phone and the connection port before charging it, a thinly folded paper towel could be used . The user did not state that there was a liquid detection alert, if there had been I'm sure she would have followed the instructions on the screen.

Also, you were incorrect telling her to wait days, the document you posted states:

  1. After at least 30 minutes, try charging with a Lightning or USB-C cable or connecting an accessory.

I'm aware it says to wait 30 minutes. I believe it is far safer to leave it powered off and dry for a couple days. Not just for 30 minutes. So that's my personal advice after being here for years and seeing posts from people who fried their iPhone trying to charge it after letting it sit a short period of time when they too dropped their phone in water. The phone will without doubt show Apple the water sensor was tripped.
