Ok I found a reliable fix! It’s stayed fixed for a couple days this time:

Settings > Siri and Search > suggestions from Apple header, toggle off the “Show when Sharing” feature

This seems to be some kind of Siri bug. The Siri share suggestions are actually very good so it’s super unfortunate to have to turn it off, but it works!

Props goes to someone on Reddit that shared this, but I can’t find the user or post anymore.

Hello! It probably was not necessary to reset the entire phone. I literally only forced restarted my iPhone 14 Pro Max with iOS 17.2.1. Now everything is working normally. Only shutting it down won’t work since I turned off my phone for around 8 hours at night and in the morning it still had the glitch. You force restart the phone by clicking volume up, release, then volume down and release and click on/off button until black screen with apple appears. It’s a difference restart

THIS HELPED ME SOLVE THE PROBLEM

Had the same issue on my wife’s phone. Numerous restarts, hard resets - phone works fine for a few minutes and then stops.

When she is signed in with her apple id - all share option buttons are greyed out or not working, bluetooth connections are failing too. But once she signs out - the phone works fine.

Apple store was no help - they only offer to reset the phone as a “new phone” 🤨

i suspected that somehow it had something to do with her apple id and was ready to set up the new one. What actually fixed the issue (not even sure how):

  1. signed her out of the phone and signed in with my apple id; checked - all worked good.
  2. After 10-15 minutes signed myself out and signed her back in - and now its all back to normal.

weird glitch, and very frustrating to deal with.

I am encountering the same issue with all sharing from Apple apps ( photos, notes, safari) and have tried the following with the help of Apple support without success. Currently it has been escalated to the Apple engineers by support side.

I’m on iPhone 15 pro max, running 17.2.1, and all apps are up to date.

what has been tried:

1) log out of iCloud, restart phone, login back into iCloud

2) reset network settings

3) reset all settings

4) airdrop settings

5) screen time settings

6) focus setting

Along the way, i found out if i log out of iCloud, the sharing works again for the above apps. It does not seem to be a hardware issue, likely a iCloud with the latest IOS issue??

If anyone has updated information/remedy, do share! Thanks!

Update after trying everything in this discussion thread: Turning off Siri suggestions in both search and share sheet has fixed it nearly permanently for me. The problem only comes back every few days, and when it does, a soft reset fixes it again for many days.

Some of the other things in this thread also worked for me, but only for short periods of an hour to maximum half a day. Turning off Siri for both search and share sheet suggestion was the only solution. Unfortunate because those suggestions are very helpful – hopefully Apple fixes this soon.

Good luck everyone!

I had same issue with 17.1.2.

Restarted multiple times with no effect. I turned off all Siri Suggestions settings, forced Restart and now it works.

I turned Siri suggestions back on (I like them for quick sharing to recents) and force restarted. Still works.

Hard to say if turning Siri suggestions Off did anything to help or I just got lucky on the restart…will see if it comes back.
