AirTag on only one phone, when multiple devices are on the same Apple ID?

My wife has no interest is having her own Apple ID. For 13+ years it hasn’t been a problem, we just share the same Apple ID on our two phones. We got some AirTags and put one in her wallet. Now I get pinged every time I leave because I’m leaving her wallet behind. Is there a way to link AirTags to just one device?
