How to unfreeze a mouse with 24" iMac M-1 chip No technician has been able to solve this problem. Even a new mouse does not function. After entering my password the screen opens and the cursor is frozen.

I have spent hours with technicians who are stumped. Disk utility proves that all is okay. The mouse works to do things at the computer with the technician, but it freezes by the little apple in the top left corner of the screen after the opening screen pops up. I am not able to open anything or go anywhere with the mouse. I bought a new mouse, charged it, but also did NOT fix the problem.

Good Morning, Mr. H. I finally got the wired mouse and adapter (by mail) for my "mouse" problem. I hooked those things up and everything is working once again. I cannot believe I spent so much time with the Apple technicians and not one of the five people told me to get a wired mouse. Anyway, I thank you for your suggestion. It is the only suggestion that actually worked. Congratulations! ejay1

What is interfering with Bluetooth communications in your environment would be the next question.

Some faulty cable, or some faulty connected device, or some other local device (microwave oven, etc) emitting prodigious interference, or a problem with your Wi-Fi router firmware or hardware, maybe.

Having a wall, metal, metal mesh, or some other such signal impediment located between the mouse and the computer is Not Good, too.

I’d also usually suspect the computer Bluetooth and Wi-Fi hardware for these cases too, but your adventures here have probably confirmed that the iMac Bluetooth hardware was working, and that the issue was apparently location-related.

Keep this wireless keyboard and mouse fix in mind too:

The following will require any USB keyboard and mouse. If you don’t have them, borrow or buy them, they are inexpensive!

1.     Connect the USB keyboard and mouse to the computer.

2.     Open System Preferences – Bluetooth

3.     Un-pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.

4.     Turn off Bluetooth

5.     Restart the computer in Safe Mode per the directions in Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

6.     Restart the computer normally.

7.     Open System Preferences – Bluetooth

8.     Turn on Bluetooth

9.     Re-Pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.

10.  Unplug the USB keyboard and mouse and begin testing the wireless devices again.

Hi, I cannot use a wired mouse with this M-1 chip desktop iMac. I have an old wired mouse but the ports on this newer computer are the new lightning ports. The thing that bugs me is the fact that the mouse works while the technician tells me to do various things, sort of behind the scene. Then, after a reopening the cursor goes back up by the apple and freezes. A technician is to call me back in a little while. Maybe she will have something different to try. If this ever gets solved, I will post a message. I am thinking there is a glitch here with these new ports.

No luck from the technician. She ordered me a new mouse. (ha ha) While I was waiting for the call back I looked over my ports and my music connections and realized that I should get the adapter you mentioned. I compose music with that adapter, my digital piano, and my computer. I had forgotten about that set-up until I saw it up close. Thank you for your advice. Eventually, I will get back with you and let you know what happens.
