My iPhone is asking me to reset “iPhone unlock passcode”

Why is it asking me this. I am quite positive I know my Apple ID and it is not taking these. Please help this is my work phone and I am on call. My phone is locking me out unless I put in password. It’s not taking my Apple ID passcode and I am unsure what it’s asking for
