Had been using FCPX on my mid-2015 15" MBP 2.5 GHz i7 running OS X 10.11 El Capitan.
Upgraded to macOS Monterey 12.7
FCPX won't open - message says:
But the app store shows:
I can't figure out how to update FCPX
I can't figure out how to update macOS
I'm stuck. Help.

What happens when you do a Finder search (File > Find) for Final Cut Pro?
Does it turn up one instance of Final Cut Pro, or several? If there are several installed, maybe when you're opening it, it is pulling up the old one.
Based on what you have posted so far, you may already have the correct version on your Mac, but may not be invoking it with whatever shortcut you are using.
I suggest you look with Finder in the /Applications folder, and GetInfo on the Final Cut icon(s) there, and see if you already have the right version available.
if you do, it's just a matter of making sure that is the one getting invoked.
what shows when you click the 'Updates' tab in the App Store sidebar?
on the Mac App Store when you see the button for FCPX that says Open, Click on it.
it used to send you the previous version that matched your MacOS version.
If that is no longer working, you will need to talk to the folks at Apple support:.
The update tab shows 3 programs/apps unrelated to FCPX that need to be updated.
Neither option works.
I have a project to remember my sons life in there. Really need to find a way to open it up.

Is there a way to upgrade my OS on this machine? Looks like the app store is requiring that I get 13.5 in order to have access to the latest FCPX. Very strange.
Any new things for me to try? Or am I just out of luck?

When I click open in the store it just opens the bad copy and wants to go to app store and update.
